Project Templates

Project templates can help you manage your work more efficiently. You don't have to repeatedly enter the same tasks, and can thus save time and be more productive. Project Templates can be accessed from the project list view.

Create a template

Create project templates and use them in your upcoming projects.

  1. Navigate to Projects tab in the left navigation panel.
  2. Click Project Templates tab.
  3. Click New Project Template.
  4. Select the Project Layout that you want to apply to the template from the upper-right corner. If you haven't created any project layouts, Standard Layout will be listed in the drop-down. Learn more about creating a Project Layout
  5. Enter the Project Template Name and select the project that you want to make as a template in Choose from Projects drop-down.
  6. Check the Add closed tasks as open tasks in the project template option if required. Closed tasks in the selected projects will be added as open tasks in the template.
  7. Type your Project Overview.
  8. Click Add Project Template to create your new project template.

Edit / delete a template

  1. Navigate to Projects tab in the left navigation panel.
  2. Click Project Templates tab and you can see the list of all the project templates.
  3. Hover over the project template that you want to edit or delete.
  4. Click    or right-click and choose Edit Template or Trash Template to edit or delete the project template. 

Clone a template

  1. Navigate to Projects tab in the left navigation panel.
  2. Click Project Templates tab and you can see the list of all the project templates.
  3. Hover over the project template that you want to clone.
  4. Click    or right-click and choose Clone Template to clone the project template.

Create Project from a Template

  1. Navigate to Projects tab in the left navigation panel.
  2. Click Project Templates tab and you can see the list of all the project templates.
  3. Hover over a project template.
  4. Click  or right-click and select Create Project.
  5. Enter a Project Title.
  6. If desired, select a Template and an Owner, enter Start and End Dates, and create a Project Overview.
  7. Set the Group, Budget, Task Layout, and other criteria for your project.
    1. Default Billing Status can be changed when creating a project. It will override the selection in Portal Settings.
    2. Map a relevant task layout to your project from the Task Layout drop-down. To view the list of task layouts available in your portal, navigate to  Customization > Layouts and Fields > Tasks Task Layouts.
  8. Select a Billing Method (note that this option only appears when Zoho Projects is integrated with Zoho Invoice or Zoho Books, and it is not available in the free plan).
    1. Based on Staff Hours - Users are assigned different rates, and project billing is based on the user rates of the team members working on the project. You can set user rates in the Add User page.
    2. Based on Project Hours - All users are assigned a standard rate, and project billing is based on the hours logged for the project as a whole.
  9. Customize the tabs for your project as necessary. You can control the visibility of the modules to others in the project with this option.
